I have several friends who were waiting for GC desparately and they thought it was the final destination. They had many reasons why to get GC and once they get, they will be free and can do / will do everything possible. But, once they got it, they settled in a permanent job. Without GC, they were working for the same client with even more pay and life was good if not better.
I was thinking the same way; because I am no different.
Oflate, I realised, I am un-necessarily worried about something which is not in my control. I realised that I am well paid, with this pay even the benefits I am not getting are compensated. Why am I worried? Should I be after GC in order to get peace of mind? I started looking it little differently. I am in this country to earn more money and live comfortably. I am already enjoying what I wanted. Then, why am I worried still? May be it is in human nature to always look for something which is not in the hands.
I still need GC for other things like Children education and get some other benefits (our education / starting business etc). I agree, but there is lot of time for that in my case. There are several people who are in the same state as me if not all. Everyone's needs are different.
I thought I will just share my ideas so that atleast some of the people will be happier.

Close to $1000 for my wife and me. (about $800 for medical, $50 for photos, rest in express mail, international phone calls and faxes, gas, etc.) I am not assigning any monetary value to the hours and hours of personal time this took...
employer is paying USCIS and attorney fees.

its a really good discussion, thanks to all people who have provided valuable information. I am a Consultant throughout my career and never lead a team but now planning to change gears and move into project management. When I goolged about the requirement to take the exam, Lot of PMP training institutes came up and they are charging about $2000 for training and they say its a 5 day course, guarantee to pass bhla bhla .... My first question is it required to take these training classes? if not how to become eligible for to take the exam, Please advice.

Your analogies are the best :)
Let me explain you in very human form: Baby is the fruit. It takes 9 months to get that fruit. To get that fruit humans put effort ( You know what I mean...). When they put effort, immediately they do not look for baby.. They wait for 9 months.. Correct.. Just apply this analogy to the struggle what we have initiated.:)

I am not sure you have to stick around for 6months or even 1 month. It is not specified anywhere. If the employer does not inform USCIS you are pretty much off the hook. Since we have GC now we dont have to tell USCIS or any one what we do. We can switch jobs/career paths and if the employer dosen't inform USCIS how will they know?
As far as people who used AC21, you are not with the original employer anyway so how does it matter if you switch jobs.
After being stuk on the career front for 10 years I am not waiting around anymore. I am going out and working on my career now that I finally have the freedom to do so..

And I thought it could not be worse than what we already got :(
What are they going to do next... Put us in Guantanamo Bay detention camp.... for being immigrants ...and that too legal...and that too high skilled.
Posting this since almost every thread has the question about the cut-off date after which all LCs or I-140s will be invalidated.
Excerpt from "http://www.ilw.com/articles/2007,0530-endelman.shtm" posted earlier, the cutoff date is May 15, 2007; NOT May 21 2007. (Thanks to "cnag" for finding this link).
Now, the points system waits until October 1, 2008, the first day of the second fiscal year following enactment. From September 10, 2007 until October 1, 2008, over one year, we will have no employment-based green cards! You heard me right friend, no employer sponsorship based on anything after May 15th 2007 and no points system. This is Pat Buchanan's dream come true- an entire fiscal year without any green cards being issued on the basis of employment!
... ...
Thanks,
Jayant

what logic? did you vote for a senator that supports such a bill or are you planning to present it in the senate/house?
and to your point, even i am not comparing any schools... i am just saying that there should be a quota for iim/iit grads...
dude, do u think the senators here care for how good iim/iit's are??
lemme make it simple so that u understand, they have 20k quota for master's [donno how this idea was sold]. In those terms, selling the idea for having an additional quota for Master's students in GC should be relatively easier than any other campaign.

I know you didn't advise me/anyone - I too expressed my view.
I still do NOT understand how a USCIS error can prevent me from re-applying !! There was a Post yesterday at IV by a gentleman from IOWA who called Up USCIS and they confirmed that it will be accepted. I PM'ed him because i was not sure if IOWA allows you to Voice-record "evidence" - He told me that USCIS recorded the call as a general Practice.
I doubt they will release their own recording to be used against them and also they says we "may" record for "Training and Quality" purpose. The best Option would be if we take Permission from the CSR and record that conversation at our end - I can't do that because the STATE i live dont allow that.
I am not advising anyone anything, I just shared what I did. This time , I did not go through a lawyer.
Something similar happened in Oct'05 and the priority dates remain retrogressed for next almost two year. It was just by stroke of fate it became current now , otherwise the situtation would have persisted.
If my memory serve me right, there were some cases back in Oct'05 whose application were rejected in error but were not allow to refile as PD had retrogressed.
Do what you want to do, I am just sharing what I did and I may be wrong. Personally after having missed one window of opportunity in Oct'05 , I have no capability to take any more risk.

Dude,
Be specific and say that your PD is current, I was wondering when EB2 India become current.
Yes, You are right. I should have written "Since EB2-India current PD period is December 2003"

Yes, this issue is on IV's agenda and we will not rest till we fix it.
On 7th July, when Fightnow, had organized a small rally in San Jose.
Another IV member had asked me a similar question, Karthik are you reading this? Yes, we care, was my answer then and now.
Hello GSC999 ( I forgot your real name :-) ) .
It was good to see and meet you at the rally .I was wondering if IV or its leadership have any updates on, when any bill ( if any) will be unveiled in the house . The end of the year is fast approaching and although we hear every other day that Nancy Pelosi or Zoe Loefgren is going to unveil something , nothing seems to happen . Only letters are flying back and forth each day from Governers and Tech industry representatives , but there seems to be no action . I prefectly agree with the fact that people are getting a bit overly impatient on the issues here , but I who has been patiently waiting and waiting and working with the state chapters just see a lull and silence on the immigration front ( Skilled and Unskilled ) . No one wants to talk about it or do anything about it on the Hill. Please prove me wrong here , I WANT TO BE WRONG !!!

It is EB3row who deserve a good grudge with EB2India/China, regarding spill-over changes.
Changing to vertical spillover will NOT help EB3 India or China.

I beg to differ with your opinion about using the walmart bags are trash bags.
One of the reason that I can think of is...
There are apartments where kitchens are so small where you are forced to buy small trash cans and stuff them under the sinck. The best way to fit these can's is with Shopping Bags, not with 5 or 10 gallon's garbbage bag.
Brahmam and Company -
This is the height of Frugality sir  . Contribute something to this society instead looting(??) everything from here and wiring to Bank of India or whatever:p .There should be a limit to this nonsense questions to be posted for Members to Read and Answer. Please grow up in life.Few Dollars here and there will not make this World upside down nor will it buy huge real estate lands in your Place. Also, buy Trash-bags for throwing Trash instead of use Walmart plastic to throw into Dumpsters. Some in my Apts do that all the time inspite of Property Managers advising against doing it.you fall in this Category.
To answer your Question, Walmart is the cheapest for anything .Period.Why?? Please see this Documentary 'Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price '.
I'll give you the last call to burn your ego.
